Samba de Gafieira Night at The Beehive

WHAT:             Forget Dancing with the Stars and come to The Beehive for one night only! The Beehive, in association with Brazil Arts World, a nonprofit organization that aims to promote authentic Brazilian art, presents “Samba de Gafieira – an evening of music and dance” at The Beehive on May 20, 2009. The Samba de Gafieira event at The Beehive launches a new project presented by Brazilian Arts World referred to as Noites Cariocas.

Noites Cariocas – (Which means, “the Bohemian night from Rio de Janeiro”) seeks to introduce Samba de Gafieira, the type of dancing found at night in the bars and nightclubs, or “gafieiras” of Rio de Janeiro, to the Boston public.

The soul of Rio de Janeiro comes alive at 6:00pm with the powerful Bossa Nova sounds of vocalist-guitarist Joao Marcos.

At 9:00PM Boston’s own Bohemia Carioca led by Fernando Brandao takes the stage blaring Samba sounds! Dance performances with celebrated Samba de Gafieira, Salsa and Zouk dancers Patrick Carvalho and Rosangela Santiago will have you moving your feet all night.

This evening is perfect for observers and participants. Take in all the action from your dinner table or kick up your heels and join in the dance. “The Caipirinha”  – the national cocktail of Brazil made with Cachaça ($10.50), will be served all night –  along with Executive Chef Rebecca Newell’s acclaimed fare including such items as: LIME & JALEPENO LUXE SEAFOOD CEVICHE ($12) and BLACKENED SHRIMP, SPRING ORZO SALAD, GRITS & FIRE ROASTED PEPPERS ($14).
